September 24, 2009 Construction of Turpan Jiaohe Airport to complete in 2010 Construction work on Turpan Jiaohe Airport has started in May. The new airport in Turpan is located in the northwestern suburb, approximately 10 km from downtown Turpan and 180 km from Urumchi. The airport is scheduled for completion in May 2010. Xinjiang also plans to build new airports and expand existing facilities including Bole and Kuche airports this year. It is expected that by the end of the "11th Five-Year Plan" period, Xinjiang will have a total of 17 airports in operation. |
