Macau Light Rail East Line: Latest progress update

The Macau Light Rail East Line is a strategic infrastructure project designed to enhance connectivity between the Macau Peninsula and Taipa. The project is progressing steadily, with key milestones already achieved.


Construction Progress
Civil Works Initiation: Construction officially commenced in Q3 2023. The line is divided into northern and southern segments, comprising:
- 6 underground stations
- Shield tunnels
- Cut-and-cover tunnels
- Elevated bridge structures

Completion Status: As of now, approximately 41% of the total works have been completed, with several milestones ahead of schedule.

Tunnel Boring Machines (TBMs):
Northern segment TBM launched on May 7
Southern segment TBM launched on May 28

Station Adjustment: ES1 Station has been shifted approximately 80 meters westward toward the Gongbei Port to improve intermodal connectivity, following approval for use of a V-shaped site.

Timeline for Operation
- Civil Works Completion: Expected by Q1 2028
- Operational Readiness: Targeted for the second half of 2029

The East Line spans approximately 7.7 km and includes six underground stations, with the cross-sea connection via a 12.1-meter diameter shield tunnel.
