33 building plans approved in Nov

The Buildings Department approved 33 building plans in November - nine on Hong Kong Island, 12 in Kowloon and 12 in the New Territories. Of the approved plans, 16 were for apartment and apartment-commercial developments, four were for commercial development, nine were for factory and industrial development and four were for community services developments.

     Consent was given for works to start on 14 building projects which will provide 106,379 sq m of gross floor area for domestic use involving 1,495 units, and 136,794 sq m of gross floor area for non-domestic use.
     The department also issued 16 occupation permits - five on Hong Kong Island, four in Kowloon and seven in the New Territories. Buildings certified for occupation have 68,162 sq m of gross floor area for domestic use involving 1,295 units, and 40,350 sq m for non-domestic use.

Construction council chairman named
The Government announced that the Secretary for Development has appointed Thomas Ho as Construction Industry Council Chairperson for two years from February 1. Nine new non-official members have also been appointed and seven incumbent non-official members have been reappointed to the council for two years.
     The new members are Marvin Chen, Prof Jack Cheng, Victor Cheung, Kan Jun, Clarence Leung, Simon Liu, Edwin Tong, Tse King-wa and Andrew Young.
     The Development Bureau welcomed the new members and said it looks forward to working closely with all of them for the healthy and continuous development of the construction industry. The bureau also thanked the outgoing chairperson Chan Ka-kui and seven outgoing members for their contributions to the council in the past years.
