Galaxy awards MOP13 billion contract for Phase 4 expansion

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) recently announced that the group has awarded a MOP13 billion (US$1.6 billion) contract to China State Construction International Holdings Ltd for Phase 4 of its Cotai expansion project. GEG estimated that construction will take more than three years to complete. With the group about to complete the third phase, Galaxy will double its presence in Cotai. With the third and fourth phases completed, the group will add another 4,500 hotel rooms and a 16,000-seat arena, in a bid to expand the offer in the non-gaming sector.

Scheduled to open gradually by the end of this year, Phase 3 of Galaxy Macau will include a 450-suite Raffles brand hotel and the Galaxy International Convention Center (GICC).  The new hotel will feature a glass airbridge connecting the two towers on every floor, with the design for each suite drawing inspiration from a modern palazzo, with a selection of suites even featuring their own private pools and gardens, and also a small number of unique loft suites featuring double-storey windows. The new hotel will be located on the resort's east promenade and open in the second half of this year.
The GICC will include a 500,000 sq ft 16,000-seat multi-purpose Galaxy Arena, which will be directly connected to the future Hyatt Hotel Corporation 700 rooms Andaz Hotel. The GICC will provide 10,000 square meters of pillar-less space that can accommodate up to 7,000 delegates, a banquet event area that can hold corporate banquets up to 2,400, a grand ballroom for 1,000 guests, and a 650-seat auditorium.
The group is also carrying out a HK$1.5 billion revamp on-going for Galaxy Hotel, Hotel Okura Macau, Banyan Tree Macau, the Broadway Macau and the StarWorld Hotel on the Macau peninsula.
