Beijing Thoracic Hospital plans massive expansion

The Beijing Thoracic Hospital is a major hospital catered for chest patients in the capital. Located in Tongzhou district, the existing hospital has 500 beds and cannot meet the demand of increasing number of patients. There is also not enough space to accommodate extra medical equipment and supporting facilities.
The expansion project will include renovation of existing premises; a new floor layout will be adopted to facilitate smooth hospital operation, as well as, maintaining a regulated flow of visitors and patients in the hospital. New extension will accommodate more beds. It is expected that the total number of beds will be increased to 900 upon full completion.
While the proposal has been put forward for approval, the design team has already begun working on the planning and design of the project. It is expected construction will commence in 2014 and the completion is scheduled in 2015-16.
Also in Beijing, the Transportation Authority is adding 1.07 million square meters of green belt along a total distance of 425 kilometers of roads in the capital. Approximately 40,000 trees of various species will be planted at the cost of RMB6.5 million yuan. More than 70% of the project has been completed and the whole project will be completed on schedule within this year. This is a continuous effort by the government to combat air pollution in the capital.
