Four Strategic Infrastructure Projects Anchor Macao's Push for Diversification
At the official reception marking the 26th anniversary of the Macau SAR on 20 December, Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai underscored that strengthening policy support, increasing financial investment, establishing a government‑led industrial fund, and advancing four major infrastructure projects will be central to accelerating Macau’s economic diversification.
Sam stated that the Government will “ensure the effective implementation of development plans for appropriate economic diversification, intensify policy support and capital investment for the establishment of government‑led industrial and guidance funds, progressively accelerate the four major construction projects, and promote economic diversification to yield tangible breakthroughs.” He added that expediting diversification represents “a profound economic and ecological transformation” for Macau.
The four priority projects highlighted by the Chief Executive are:
1. Macau–Hengqin International Education University City
2. International Integrated Tourism and Cultural Zone
3. Macau International Air Transport Hub on the west bank of the Pearl River
4. Macau Science and Technology Research and Development Industrial Park
Sam also noted that the MSAR Government will accelerate the development of the In‑depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin, promote infrastructure integration, align standards and regulatory mechanisms, and further strengthen ties between residents of Macau and Hengqin.
