Curiosity Cove: A Hypernatural Indoor Playscape at Mandai Wildlife Reserve
Moment Factory has partnered with Mandai Wildlife Group to deliver Curiosity Cove, Singapore’s largest indoor nature‑inspired playscape for children aged three to twelve. The new 4,600‑square‑metre attraction introduces an all‑weather, indoor experiential layer to the Mandai Wildlife Reserve, complementing the Singapore Zoo, Night Safari, and River Wonders.
Integrated Experience and Spatial Design
Appointed as lead experience designer and content producer, Moment Factory worked closely with Mandai Wildlife Group, wildlife specialists, architects, and engineers to shape a unified narrative environment. The studio’s end‑to‑end involvement ensured that storytelling, circulation, and scenography were embedded directly into the architectural framework, transforming the built space into an active component of the visitor journey.
A Hypernatural Environment for Play and Learning
Curiosity Cove applies a “hypernatural” design approach, reinterpreting natural forms at an architectural scale—roots become structural volumes, webs evolve into climbable elements, and terrain is sculpted into tactile landscapes. More than thirty interactive features span four ecosystems—Forestlands, Grasslands, Drylands, and Wetlands—each calibrated to children’s scale, movement patterns, and sensory engagement.
Digital layers, immersive soundscapes, and responsive technologies animate the environments. Highlights include the Wetlands’ Reef Retreat, which introduces underwater species and ecological concepts, and the Grasslands zone, where physical scenography blends with interactive projections to encourage exploratory play.

User‑Centric Development
Throughout the design process, Moment Factory conducted iterative testing with children from the target age group. These insights informed decisions on circulation, materiality, sensory cues, and interaction points, ensuring the playscape supports intuitive navigation, collaborative play, and age‑appropriate learning.
