Timber construction in the city
Currently multi-storey timber construction is experiencing something of a renaissance all around the globe. A sizable part of this upswing is, quite literally, hidden from view.  Despite regional differences, the motors that drive development and the obstacles that hinder it are similar in many places.

With a planned height of 62 metres, this 18-storey housing tower was conceived for Toronto, Canada, by Penda, an Austrian-Chinese architecture practice.  Inspired by Moshe Safdie’s Habitat 67 housing complex, the architects designed a modular structure of spatial cells that are prefabricated from cross laminated timber.  This high-rise has yet to obtain a building permit.
