BEAM Plus Platinum Project Public Exhibition promotes green city

BEAM Plus Platinum Project Public Exhibition is organized by Hong Kong Green Building Council and will be opened to the public from December 2 to 14, at 1/F, Central Ferry Pier 7
The exhibition will display various projects which have attained the highest “BEAM Plus Platinum” rating. It gives a chance for the public to learn more about BEAM Plus Platinum Projects, and the importance and features of green buildings.
According to research carried out by HKGBC, buildings with BEAM Plus Platinum rating on average consume 30% less energy and 39% less water than the baseline values. Referring to statistics from a leading Massachusetts enterprise, a maximum of 42% of electricity and 34% of water can be saved in green buildings compared to other ordinary buildings.
Other statistics published by the US Green Building Council in 2012 show an increase in occupancy by 6.4% and a decrease in operating costs by 13.6% for new green construction, and also the value of property can be raised by approximately 5%. Therefore building green is essential in project investment, and at the same time makes our city more environmentally efficient and sustainable.
"BEAM Plus" is a green building labeling tool with assessment performed by BEAM Society Limited and certification performed by the Hong Kong Green Building Council. It is a comprehensive environmental assessment scheme including six aspects of a project: site aspects, energy use, indoor environmental quality, materials aspects, water use, innovations and additions. A rating will be assigned to the project according to the scoring after assessment. BEAM Plus rating is divided into 5 categories: Unclassified, Bronze, Silver, Gold and the highest, Platinum.
Up to Nov 2014, there are more than 570 local properties registered with BEAM Plus and 185 of them have been assessed.
